About Niharika Srivastava
“It is a joy to be hidden and a disaster not to be found” (D.W. Winnicott).
My keen interest in understanding why people behave the way they do, began early when I wanted to make sense of my own world. My curiosity, along with my extensive clinical training led me to become a Counselling Psychologist, one who enjoys working with adolescents and adults.
I work with a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, panic attacks and emotional overwhelm. I also help address traumatic experiences, loss, grief and difficulties in relationships through a psychosocial, psychodynamic and humanistic lens of therapy. What this means is that I will offer you a safe and non-pathologising space where we can unpack your past experiences and how they may influence your present thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I also work with Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy which has been proven to work very well with trauma and PTSD symptoms. Read more about it here.
I look at therapy as a partnership, where we share the psychological and emotional weight that you usually carry alone. In session, we will focus on your feelings, relationships, and everything else that matters to you. We will uncover deep-seated patterns that may be causing you distress. My goal will be to help you develop insight, recognize unhelpful patterns and empower you to lead a life of profound self-awareness.
Additionally, due to my upbringing and education in India, I bring a deep understanding of the intersectionalities of caste, class, religion and gender in the Indian context. In my work, I acknowledge the role of social and systemic realities and their impact on our inner worlds. While I understand therapy won't always feel pleasant, I will ensure to constantly collaborate with you on your needs, goals, and incorporate your feedback.
Ultimately, my aim is to build a relationship of depth and trust between you and I where all parts of you feel seen and accepted.
