About Dr. Nisha Sangwan
Embracing the journey of being an immigrant, an international student, and a single mother, I have had the lived experience of transitioning from a small town in India to a big metro city in Canada. Learning to juggle multiple roles and responsibilities has helped me explore who I am as a person and a professional in a slow, yet fulfilling way. I, along with most of my clients, represent the resiliency of the changing landscape of the Canadian community.
Mental health challenges, especially traumatic experiences and major life stressors can significantly impact our daily lives, and make us feel disconnected from ourselves, our people, our places, and our lives. I believe that re-building connections to self and others is the key to healing. Hence, my work with you will focus on helping you build healthier perceptions of yourself and strengthen your relationships. I will encourage you to consider a curious perspective toward your thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and memories. I will also incorporate tools to help you loosen the grip of unhelpful narratives, thought patterns, and self-beliefs.
I believe that working with the inter-relations between the body, mind, and spirit can holistically help us bring together emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. My blended approach includes trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-TI), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotional Freedom tapping techniques, Brain Spotting, Mindfulness, Play Therapy, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).
